Nancy Marie Payne

Certified to teach Special Education and Pre-K through 6th grades in New York State
After teaching in a classroom, Nancy Marie worked for New York State as an Environmental Educator at a DEC Nature Center. There she taught students with special needs and all grades from pre-K through collage. She has created curriculum for grade school classrooms, and taught teacher preparation classes on a collage level.
Throughout her career Nancy Marie has used storytelling to teach; "Any subject can be more engaging when the elements of storytelling enliven the lesson."
She conducts storytelling workshops for students and adults and is currently a story coach for multi-ethnic students. She is a co-author of a storytelling coaching curriculum. She has also written a book,
How I Came to Dowagiac,
a fictionalized account of the first orphan train from New York City to Dowagiac Michigan.
Nancy Marie specializes in historical stories of strong women and enjoys all the traditional forms of storytelling. She writes many of her stories.
